Solutionist Spotlight: Carol Norris
- What do you like most about your job?
That’s a hard question because there are so many things I enjoy about being a safety consultant. The part of my job that I like most is that I have contributed in some way to prevent a serious injury or possibly save someone’s life. I truly value training and consulting with companies so their employees know how to recognize and remedy hazards to prevent workplace injuries. - How do you define success?
Success to me is a combination of personal and professional characteristics that lead to a happy, productive, and fulfilling life. For me, these traits include being goal-oriented, having a positive attitude, good interpersonal communication skills, showing empathy, looking at the glass half-full rather than half-empty, taking risks, and having drive and passion in all that you do. - What makes FFVA Mutual different from other workers’ comp carriers?
For starters, there is a true family atmosphere where everyone is always there for one other for support, guidance and growth. This begins at the top with Craig Menzl, our President & CEO, and trickles down to all managers and employees. Likewise, our policyholders and agents are treated the same way – just like our employees, they are not just a number, they are individually valued and we understand they have various needs that are unique to their industry and role. FFVA Mutual strives to continually meet those needs by providing the best possible workers’ comp solutions with professionalism and passion. - What are your most treasured possessions?
My 3 Schnauzers – Fonzi, Tess, and Angel. They provide me endless unconditional love, loyalty, and happiness every day. Life would definitely feel empty without them. - What is your favorite childhood memory?
Scuba diving a shipwreck off the Gulf Coast with my father. - What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love being outdoors, preferably doing something water-related. I love walking on the beach, swimming in the pool, kayaking, water skiing, boating – pretty much anything around water. That also includes frozen water like ice skating and skiing. I also enjoy gardening. It brings me an inner sense of peace with the world. Finally, I love to entertain and spend time with my family. Sharing stories, laughter, tears, making memories and enjoying the company of good friends and family is very important to me. - Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.
I once climbed Mt. Fuji in Japan.
